PCSL K-ZONE TARGET
This is the official target of the PCSL (Practical Competition Shooting League). PCSL has partnered with SuperVel Ammunition to be the official distributor of the K-Zone Target.

PCSL recognizes the brown side as a handgun target, and the white side as a carbine target. No-Shoots (penalty targets) are painted solid red with a black “X” across the span of the target.
The K-Zone target is traditionally scored using the Points Per Second (also known as “Hit Factor”) scoring method, where the competitor’s score is the sum of all their points shot on target (minus any penalties) divided by the time it took them to shoot the course of fire. Two hits in either the A, C, or D zones are required, or a single hit in the K zone is required to neutralize the target and avoid penalties. PCSL uses minor scoring for all firearms, meaning that a hit in the A zone scores 5 points, C zone scores 3 points, and D zone scores 1 point. Additionally, a single hit in the K zone scores the full 10 points with no second shot required.
While specifically designed for use in PCSL matches, the K-Zone Target’s unique design and scoring zones offer benefits in a wide variety of training and competition scenarios. Some benefits include:
WIND RESISTANCE: The smaller size and shoulder cuts make this target extremely wind resistant.
HIGHER STANDARD OF MARKSMANSHIP: The significant reduction of unnecessarily large D-Zone or -3 Zone, and slightly smaller sizing of A/C or -0/-1 zones demands a higher standard of marksmanship to avoid penalties.
MULTIGUN APPLICATIONS: For 3-Gun, Multigun, and other events that use time-plus scoring (requiring 1 Alpha or two hits anywhere), the K-Zone target offers a HUGE improvement by scoring 1 Kilo as neutralized instead of 1 Alpha. This removes the extremely common occurrence of “lucky alpha-mikes” that result in no penalty earned by the competitor.
MILITARY AND LEO APPLICATIONS: For military and law enforcement training, the scoring zone sizes and positioning more closely translate to real world applications and demand the ability to place effective hits on target.
The target’s design can be thought of as a cross between the commonly used USPSA target and international IPSC (“turtle”) targets, with the extension of the A zone to include the head box, and the addition of the K zone as a high-risk high-reward scoring area. The overall size of the K-Zone target is about 18” wide by 23” tall, approximately the same overall profile as the IPSC target.

"Without going too much into the specifics, I find that the target design and dimensions are far more practical than the USPSA Metric target in the sense that the aggressive angles and tapers at the base of the target penalize the most common and distinct marksmanship error. That error is recoil anticipation or improper trigger press due to excessive arm and shoulder tension.
On the PCSL target, most shots low left and low right will likely be off target and that has an extreme point penalty attached to it. The fact that there is an A zone quite comparable but three inches higher than a metric target but includes a K box is very useful. It allows you to fire a single shot to the K but get the full points of 2 A-zone hits. This is a good way to reward marksmanship at speed, allow people to plan a stage that minimizes rounds fired and gives shooters the opportunity to assess their aggressive on-demand marksmanship skill. The target is well thought out and lends itself to all practical forms of shooting by being far less forgiving and far more technical than a USPSA metric target.
I plan to transition to it for all my training and classes. After shooting those for 6 months and competing several times in St. George with these as the only cardboard targets used, I am sold on the design."
